With the support of UNICEF and funding from CERF, 7 hand pumps have been maintained as part of the project to enhance access to water and sanitation for those affected by the conflict in El Fasher and Dar Al Salam. The aim of maintaining the pumps is to provide safe drinking water by repairing existing faults in the pumps and replacing damaged and broken parts. The maintenance of the hand pumps has helped provide water for 7,500 people from the host community and displaced persons within the city of El Fasher, due to the scarcity of water, high maintenance and operational costs, and the circumstances faced by the displaced, including the lack of water and sanitation services and limited funding for water and sanitation activities.
